The Cereal Planting Season in La Segarra: Following the Rhythm of Nature

The Cereal Planting Season in La Segarra: Following the Rhythm of Nature

At our rural tourism farmhouse in La Segarra near Barcelona, we not only offer a unique experience for our guests, but we are also an active part of the agricultural life of the region. With the arrival of autumn, we begin one of the most important periods in the rural calendar: the cereal planting season. This year, as we do every season, we’ve waited for the right moment to begin planting, guided by a key factor that has led farmers for generations: the lunar phase.

THE INFLUENCE OF THE MOON ON AGRICULTURE

The connection between agriculture and the moon’s phases is an ancient practice that dates back to early civilizations. For centuries, farmers have observed how the lunar cycles affect the natural rhythms of plants and the land. At our agricultural farm, we’ve decided to follow this traditional method to ensure that the planting cycle begins at the most favorable time.

When the moon is waxing, it’s believed that plant sap tends to rise, encouraging the growth of everything above the ground, such as leaves and stems. In contrast, when the moon is waning, the earth’s pull is stronger, and underground processes benefit, including root development. For many farmers, this makes the waning moon the ideal time to plant cereals and other deep-rooted crops.

STARTING THE PLANTING: THE PERFECT TIMING

At our farm, we are taking advantage of the ideal lunar phase to start planting cereal. The waning phase is particularly favorable for cereal crops, as plants develop stronger, deeper root systems, allowing them to better absorb nutrients and water from the soil. This results in healthier, more resilient plants throughout their life cycle.

THE CYCLE OF THE EARTH AND THE MOON

By following this natural cycle, we synchronize our agricultural efforts with nature’s rhythms, respecting the balance between the earth and the sky. This philosophy aligns with our focus on sustainability and our respect for the natural environment around us. We believe that by following traditional agricultural principles, we not only achieve better results in our harvest but also keep an ancient tradition alive.

We invite our guests to come and experience this unique process firsthand.
